Waste disposal unit

We're getting ready to redo our kitchen and we want to install a waste disposal.
My question for those who have one is where do you have it? In the main sink or do you have it in either a double or 1.5 sink. I'm leaning towards getting it in the half sink but want to get opinions.

We have a double sink with the waste disposal on the side nearest the dishwasher. If we had a 1.5 sink then we would have it in the half side.

don't.
they tend to clog and are a pita to clean.
they are also not permitted by some water boards as the debris causes issues with pipes.
get a compost bin.

I have a one and a half sink and have it in the half sink.

This is the second kitchen I’ve had one in and never had a problem with it. It doesn’t smell and is easy to keep clean.

I don’t use it for large volumes though. I tend to use it as an alternative to scraping plates, rinsing out pans etc. So stuff that might have gone down the plughole otherwise.

We have food waste recycling here so I use that for large volumes, peelings and so on.

Curiously, my council before they introduced food waste recycling were encouraging households to have waste disposal units.

Ah, we love ours! It's fantastic. Had it 3 years with no problems at all. It's an Insinkerator, we got the top of the range one, but with a hefty discount for buying at the Ideal Home Show. It will happily dispose of a chicken carcass or the bone from a lamb joint (though lamb bones are noisy and take a while).

We have it under the main bowl of a 1.6 bowl sink. We originally wanted it under the half bowl, but it wouldn't fit - the unit itself is quite wide, and there wasn't space to the side of the 600mm cabinet IYSWIM.

However, I actually prefer it under the main bowl, because if we ever have a big clear out, it's nice to have the space to chuck everything in.

One word of warning - I've also had some experience of a much cheaper brand some time ago and would agree with a PP that these are not really worth having, they are a pain.

Get the drains checked. If your live with older drains they may not be suitable.
