Moving meters and replastering

Hello I'm looking for advice on what order certain jobs should / could be done.

Our current problem is a garage that has been converted (badly) to a bedroom. It's poorly insulated, cold and the quality of the finish is awful. The doorway is in the wrong place and is not hugely safe where it is.

We're planning to overhaul the room and need to move the gas and electricity meters and the consumer unit. The meters & consumer unit are located where we plan to put a new doorway. We also plan to completely strip the room back to bricks in order to insulate it and probably install underfloor heating.

Current plan is to move the meters & consumer unit further down an existing wall and then overhaul the rest of the room a couple of months later. We know there will be some chaos from the result of the meter moves but we can live with damage to one wall whilst we're saving up for the cost for the rest of the job.

Is this stupid? Are meters normally the last thing to be moved?

If you are moving the meters any more than a few feet it will cost you a fair bit.

Yes expecting to pay £1000 or so for the electricity meter as it will need to move more than 1 metre but can hopefully get away with moving the gas meter less than 1 metre (£185 + VAT).

How Croaking? Is the gas meter not done by Cadent?

If it's less than a metre the move can be arranged by your supplier.
