Fumigate house on moving in.

I want to arrange fumigation, on a house that I'm buying, to take place after completion.

It's clean and tidy in a an old person's sort of way and very dated. I will be doing some work before moving in but I just keep thinking of bugs.
Has anyone else done this before?

Tia.

I dont even know what fumigation consists of? Are you in the uk?

bilbodog · 18/09/2018 19:34

Ok i realise you are talking about bugs. Have you any reason to think there are bugs? If its just old and very dated it doesnt nessarily need fumigating - if you get rid of any carpets and curtains and deep coean the house it could be ok. You only need to fumigate if you know there is some sort of infestation.

What are you fumigating for? I think (but am not 100% sure) that there would be different chemicals and methods used for different infestations - do you suspect fleas of bedbugs or something?

I'm paranoid of bedbugs. Yes I'm in the UK but my worst nightmare is moving into a new home and it has a secret infestation.

You never get keys till late in the day anyway. If it's for your peace of mind, buy some big bombs online and set them off when you get the keys and don't go back in until next day if you can.

Bug! Not big!!! #notaterrorist

Presumably you are bringing your own furniture? Maybe buy a couple of cans of Indorex flea spray as apparently that works on bedbugs too, spray any carpets and any cracks/joins in flooring, and hoover thoroughly.

Have it inspected for bed bugs. There are companies. Beg Bugs UK for example. It's about £70. Fumigation is expensive and toxic, don't do it unless there's a good reason.

Sorry, but anything you buy over the counter will NOT work on bed bugs

If you really think there is a real chance of there being bed bugs in the property, then you need to call somebody out.
