Any recommendations, and any tips for application?

Been looking at Purlfrost. Have low windows and houses looking in on both sides!

Also - unsure whether to go for full frosted pattern for full privacy, or risk the semi private one where it's the print on clear, so I guess you can see through to an extent. Will I be exposing myself to the neighbours with this in the bedroom?!

I got some from purlfrost recently after asking for recommendations on here. Very pleased with it. Application is straightforward but don't rush it. Unless it's a small window it's best to have two people as it's tricky to unroll it and remove the backing film otherwise.

Ours is on the first floor and not within direct eyeline of the street, if it was then I would go for full frosting.

I got something similar from Amazon - it was a doddle to put up and I'm really pleased with it.
I put some on the spare bedroom window [sewing room] to protect my fabrics from the sun.
I also got a coloured one for the little hall window that looks straight out on to the road. Really simple to put up and ran round the edges with a scalpel to neaten it all off.

Have you considered getting window tints. We have them mainly to keep the heat out as our house boils in the summer but they're great for privacy too. During the day they just look black and slightly reflective from the outside and you can't see in even with your head pressed against the glass but you can still see out perfectly.

You do need to draw curtains/blinds at night as you can see through them when it goes dark.

We had our double rear patio doors, double kitchen window and bay front window done for about £250.

Have a look at Brume. You can have it cut to size or cut it yourself, if I remember correctly.
