Alternatives to the ubiquitous metro brick tiles

I do like white metro tiles but I'm exploring alternatives for tiling in our bathroom and cloakroom in our new house. Maybe something a bit quirky or unusual. Any suggestions/inspiration? If you would be kind enough to share photos I'd be most grateful. Thanks

We went for a heavy patterned tile for our bathroom and picked brushed brass finishes

Have you looked at Bert & May for inspiration? They have loads of lovely quirky tiles.

Thin tiles similar to metro but done in a herringbone or chevron design look stunning. You can use all one colour or have a few colours.

Textured tiles and hexagon shapes are also around at the moment.

wowfudge · 18/09/2018 11:51

You can also get larger format metro tiles. We had them in our last bathroom.

Bingbangbingbangbong That is GORGEOUS! You must never want to get out of the shower!

We have gone for these for our kitchen, similar to metro tiles, they also do them in white. P.s it's not my kitchen.

I saw some gorgeous fishtail shaped tiles on the Houzz Instagram feed recently.

Kamma89 · 18/09/2018 13:02

If you go hexagon, fishtail, tear drop etc get the right size for your space to minimise any weird shapes when cut to fit. Also cost of fitting will probably be a bit more expensive if getting a tiler in.

Thank you! I haven't actually been able to get in it yet because second fix is still not 100% finished!! Took ages convincing the husband that the tile wouldn't look like a magic eye picture once done, especially since everyone kept murmuring things like 'small space' and 'too busy' Hmm

Our second bathroom starts first fix next week and I have gone for a subway tile in that room, but it is a beautiful, metallic blush pink glass tile

(that took even MORE convincing for him).

ItsLikeRain · 18/09/2018 19:28

Oohh @bing do you have a link? Metallic pink blush sounds SO nice!

Bingbangbingbangbong · 18/09/2018 19:42

Yes indeed! Got them from topps tiles

I dithered over the colour being too barbie, bit it’s actually very subtle and I’m going to offset it with a dark grout

How much?

butterfly990 · 19/09/2018 19:10

I think it was mentioned from memory of being £12k

wowfudge · 19/09/2018 19:40

Sorry butterfly, I fainted at the £130psm for the pink metallic tiles and cross posted with you. Yours does look very good though.
