Help! Painting newly plastered walls...

We have had a large room re-plastered 4 weeks ago so plenty of time to dry out. Kitchen area has been painted fine. Family area has had 1 coat of emulsion and water mixed, and then 2 coats of paint but is looking like this? Any ideas why or how we can fix?? Thanks

What emulsion did you mix with water?

IAmcuriousyellow · 16/09/2018 12:42

I think this is why people use lining paper. Maybe the plaster is just absorbing the water - could you coat the wall with a solution of PVA to seal it?

melissasummerfield · 16/09/2018 12:43

I always thought you had to pva spray new plaster before you paint it?

Kitchencrazy · 16/09/2018 13:06

It was just a magnolia mixed with water which I believe you can do or the pva method. We have done the same in 3 other rooms and it's been fine so wondering if it is the magnolia (which my husband has just told me is from his mum's shed so god knows how old it is! 🤨) think we are going to have to sand down and re-paint..

No - you do a mist coat in a breathable paint which is watered down emulsion. If it was full replastering and not just skimming it is possible the plaster wasn't fully dry eye .it was painted which is why I've asked the OP what paint she used.

wowfudge · 16/09/2018 13:08

Dry eye??! Dry when it was painted

wowfudge · 16/09/2018 13:08

Matt or silk or what OP? It's important as it will inform people's answers.

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 16/09/2018 13:13

What ratio of water to paint?

Silk or Matt?

Kitchencrazy · 16/09/2018 13:33

50/50 ratio, Matt emulsion. It's been 4 weeks since plastered so it was dry. Thanks for advice/Help x

It is looking much better as it's drying but you can still see the marks..Think we are you to give it another coat and hope for the best..

4 weeks is not necessarily long enough for plaster to dry OP. I think you might have peeling issues in the future as looks like paint has formed a skin in some places. In your shoes I'd do another coat and hope to get away with it.

I'm sure we were told to wait something like three months before painting.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated x
