Have exchanged - can we visit?

Quick question... we exchanged on our first home this week (huzzah!) and expect to complete in 3-4 weeks (we're in Ireland where exchange happens a bit earlier in the process, so there's usually a bit more time between exchange and completion). Is it considered ok to ask the agent if we can visit the house in the next week or two? We just want to measure up for furniture, have a closer look at the kitchen appliances, etc. It's an executor sale so the house is empty, i.e. we wouldn't be disturbing anyone. I'm just not sure if this is the done thing or not!

Does no harm to ask. They can only say no!

I did this (Scotland) after I’d made the offer although hadn’t exchanged. It was fine. No harm in asking.

They wouldn't let me do it but maybe that's because I bought it off a bank.

I was able to with an empty property bought at auction (England). I'd say it's definitely worth asking the estate agent.

I have always gone in the week between exchange and completion. Never had a problem

Congratulations for exchanging! Cannot see any reason why they would not accommodate you, I visited my property between exchange and completion.

Always fine to ask! You've got no particular visitation rights though. It's not yours yet.

Sold our house in Ireland this May. Had no problem allowing future owners access with their MIL

Thanks all! Going to get in touch with the agent today and ask.

When I sold my house the purchaser came several times to measure. Every time she brought a different friend or family member and no tape measure. She was a first time buyer and understandly excited about her new house but in the end it got irritating and I started to refuse.

Duly noted, Skipped! Grin
