Where to live! Between Bristol and London :)

Another “where should we live” thread!

We need easy access to Bristol and London (London more often, travelling into the city, near St. Paul’s).

Needs good state schools, looking for a small town or a village with some amenities, want lots of greenery. Easy access to the coast would be a plus.

We have a decent budget - prob £1 or £2m (depends if we sell the London house or not). We’re looking for a 4 bed, preferably detached, with a biggish garden.

Suggestions pretty please?

Oops last was way under budget. Here’s what you could get with your budget:

How about a village near Chippenham/towards Bath? Look at somewhere like castle Combe, yatton keynell, Kingston st Michael, box...right on train line to both, lovely country side and can't get much better state schools than Hardenhuish/Sheldon...

That last house is Maisemore.

Avoid - it's always flooded!

Pangbourne house with views over the river but uphill from the river.

Vale of Peswey/Marlborough area. Halfway between Temple Meads and Paddington if you're going to be commuting by train (though the last train from London is quite early in the evening, or used to be). Beautiful countryside all around, and some lovely villages. The coast is a bit of a trek but outside summer holidays you could be on the beach in the Christchurch/New Forest area in under an hour and a half.

West of Salisbury villages are delightful.

MrsMoastyToasty · 09/09/2018 19:10

Bath or Keynsham. Both have railway stations and have direct links to Bristol and London.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 09/09/2018 19:16

Cirencester.

Near cirencester and Kemble

Agree with samlovesdilys - Chippenham is on the main Bristol-London train line- 30 mins to Bristol and 1hr 15 to Paddington. Lots pretty villages close and excellent state schools (primary and secondary).

OhTheRoses · 09/09/2018 19:23

Ic ypu want 4 beds I'd seriously consider Brentford op if you can't afford Chiswick. On the river good access to Bristol/St Pauls, assume you mean cathedral not achool, and not bad for the South Coast. Schools are reasonable I believe.

Thatcham & the villages around there seemed pleasant

RumCustard · 09/09/2018 19:27

Pewsey and the villages around are pretty, plus the beaches in Wales are good.

Coupled with Goring there are many events (regatta, torchlit procession, art festival, food festival). Lovely spot, and there is always something going on.

Unlike goring, it's in catchment for the Downs (mentioned above), and the primary school is excellent. Surrounded by National Trust, a Golf Course, and a flood plain, so will always be a village...
