Adding electrical socket

Just wondering if anybody knows if this could be done/estimated cost.

Recently moved into our new home & found that our broadband socket is under the stairs with no electrical socket near it. So to have broadband we need to plug it in under the stairs and run a wire across our hallway-not ideal.

Was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to fit an electrical socket next to broadband socket under the stairs & roughly how much this would cost. There’s already a light under the stairs so there’s electricity in there, if that makes a difference.

The socket would need to be added to the existing socket-circuit in the downstairs, it should not be run from the lighting circuit. A spur can be run from another socket to under the stairs - how much that will cost depends on how far away and how the cable will be routed.

thinking a bit further, it might be easier to either move the broadband connection nearer to a suitable power socket, or just use an ADSL extension lead from the broadband outlet to where the router will go?

Thanks @ifailed An extension lead won’t work because it will have to run straight across the hallway or above the front door.

Moving the broadband connection could be an option though. Would that be a job for an electrician or phone line engineer?

I assume the broadband socket you refer to is itself spurred off from the phone line where it enters your house? if so, and you can keep it all together without damaging the cable, pretty well anyone could do it. If it would need the cable cutting and re-wiring into it's new place, any competent 'handyman/woman' should be able to to that.
Like I said, it might just be easier to plug an ADSL extension lead into the BB socket, and run it to wherever you want the router. It all depends on the layout and whether you are happy for a thin cable to run along the top of skirting boards etc.
a 3rd option is to look at your phone incoming socket, you could just plug in an adaptor like the picture, add an ADSL filter and then place the router near the phone?

My DF is a good handyman so I’ll get him to take a look at the socket to see if option 1 would work. Thanks for your help!
