New gas supply?

The house we've bought currently has ancient night storage heaters downstairs and no heating upstairs at all. It's a mid terrace and we can see that both neighbours have a gas supply to their homes so we'd like to do the same. Does anyone have a rough idea about how much this is likely to cost? And how disruptive it'll be?

To my knowledge it’s very expensive - several thousand pounds, especially once you add in the cost of pipes, radiators, boiler and plumber.

Hi op I work for a heating firm we charge approx £3k for a full central heating installation depending on how many radiators you want, power of boiler etc. It is normally around 3-5 days work but can be longer. You will need to contact your local gas supplier to arrange to connect the mains gas to your meter and there is a fee for that as well.

For the gas connection somewhere around £500-1000 probably the lower end for a terrace (I'm assuming you're close to the road). Where abouts in the country are you?

Thanks for the responses! They're really helpful! We're in East Ayrshire - both next door terraces have a gas supply already so we're hoping this will help! The property currently only has two night storage heaters and that won't be sufficient with us and a toddler!

If your neighbours are connected then they'll be able to connect you. I can't find it but there's an old video somewhere that explains the process.

That's a great link - thanks so much for that!
