Static caravan during building work

We are carrying out major building work soon. This means we will have to move out for 6 months. Rental prices where we live are very high (£1400pcm minimum for 2 beds). We have 2 DCs 6 and 9.

We have a largish patch of lawn at the front of our house (approx, 34ft by 26ft) and are considering hiring a static caravan (or similar) to pitch there.

Has anyone done this and can recommend companies? I know I will need to call the local council and check if we need planning permission, but again has anyone had experience of this. Also, this will be over winter. We are away for Christmas and could go to stay with family in school holidays - but is this manageable with two youngish DCs?

Any advice or experience is welcome. Thanks.

We did 12 years ago with a 4 month old and 3 yr old. We were doing a self build and lived in it for a year in the end.
They are freezing in winter and boiling in summer! I would probably do it again because we saved a fortune. We bought our static from a holiday park and paid £2000 for it. They often sell them off if they get too old. Ours was in pretty good condition though.

I’ve previously owned a static that we used all year round

You can get ones with double glazing and central heating that we used regularly down to -5c after that the gas and water supplies started to freeze up

Ours was like a home from home we used for months at a time with our 2dc happy memories

You might want to ship out to an Airbnb if the weather turns really snowy and long sub zero periods
