Is Margate commutable to London?

Realistically? I've taken a fancy to some of the pretty houses there (and the equally attractive prices). Would love to have thoughts from anyone who knows or lives in Margate - thanks Smile

There’s a hipster scene with pottery studios, creative restaurants, the Turner gallery etc. Then there’s the hard pressed traditional Margate, which has an antisocial element . The two are like oil and water.

Margate is gorgeous for a day out in the summer. However I have had some work there in a couple of autumns and winters and it is much less nice.

I wouldn't want to pay so much for the train to London from there unless it were lovely but it just isn't for at least three quarters of the year.

You should book an airbnb in a neighborhood you're thinking of for a week, test out the commute, and see what it's like. Preferably in a bleak month like January. If you like it after that, go for it.

We visited Walmer in the summer - It's very pretty but apart from the station, castle and the beach there is absolutely nothing there. We walked along the seafront to Deal which was pretty down at heel and quiet I'm afraid on a Friday afternoon in August when I would have expected it to be buzzing with folks on holiday.

And another no for Margate too. Looked at a flat there in the old Nursing Home on the beach. Almost London prices, it was ridiculous.
