Shower seats and shelving

I'm currently trying to plan a bathroom renovation which includes a large shower where the bath used to be (teeny tiny bathroom, teeny tiny bath!). It's not going to be a massive enclosure like some luxury ones, but pretty big. It will be in the corner. At the moment, the idea is a shower tray, enclosure with sliding door, tiled behind.

I'd like to add a shower seat/bench near the shower heads (I would put it opposite, but it won't work layout or space wise). Does anyone have a shower seat? I'm not sure what material would be best for it. Stone, marble, corian? I will probably have it as a floating seat/slab style in the centre of the wall with a gap either side, or at the corner. I was considering something built in and fully tiled, but I don't want miniscule gaps between tile and glass where moisture can collect. I might do a slab covered with tiling but not sure what base material to use for the piece.

The main consideration is that it's easy to clean! Comfort would be a plus but I don't plan to sit there for hours.

Second item is storage in the shower. I don't have many bottles in the shower, just a few essentials, but a shelf would be nice. I have considered recessed shelving but saw mixed reviews of this method and I really won't have room for a stud wall (wall is otherwise thick stone). I really don't want plastic shelving like I have currently, or wire baskets. Definitely something secure and again, easy to clean. I have seen corian shelves that look fairly manageable. Or has anyone got ingenious shower storage that they can share?

Any lessons learned about this type of shower set up are also appreciated. I would have liked a true walk-in shower but am going with sliding enclosure in a minimal style because I'll get too much spray from a walk in and be forever mopping the floor.

Thanks!

I’m toying with the idea of a shower seat (to shave my legs 😁).

If the shower enclosure is same size as a bath then fixed glass panel with a flipper would be ideal instead of slider door. if you have rain shower head then water goes over you instead of everywhere. you can put the control near where you can reach to turn on before you get in. Impey do some nice shower seats.

Thank you for the advice! I was looking at the deflector panel things and wondering. We're not sure about the length of the enclosure yet, may only be about 1400mm but could potentially be larger, I think the bath is a regular 1700mm length - we just need to check if it would look too much of a tight squeeze next to the larger basin we're getting. We're not quite in the new house yet!

I have a 1200 shower with an open end, wetbroom stuke, and the drench shower sends water out of it. You need 1400 to sit in it. I would get it bigger if you can! We have a glass shelf for gel and shampoo. This works well. I have a recessed shelf in another shower and that’s perfectly ok too.

Can you not have a seat and shelf combined? Make it the width of the shower. You won’t need it floating if you have the space.

I have a tiled one like lthis

@BubblesBuddy thanks! I really wanted the seat to go the whole width and be fully tiled, but if I get a full enclosure (rather than freestanding panel) I'm concerned about having the seat right against the glass on the edge side because I've heard that water can easily get trapped in the tiny gap and cause mold issues. This problem wouldn't be as likely if the seat was going between two tiled walls (at least from what I've seen on Pinterest). With separate glass panels you can easily get the glass cut out for the side of the seat, but I don't suppose it's possible with a sliding shower enclosure because of the base/runners. Hope I explained that without too much confusion... oops. I'm thinking of configurations with shelving now too though! Not giving up.
