Would people with composite doors recommend them?

Have now got a fitter coming round to do measurements and am slightly getting cold feet. 1.1k for a door sounds a lot. Currently have a hardwood door and don’t like the look of pvc. So this seems like a good compromise in that it looks nice and should hopefully be better for heat loss than a wooden one?

Are they long lasting, do they scratch? I’m not sure I like the idea that it will be white (pvc) in the inside. Which I hadn’t realised until today. I’d been assuming it would be a nice green colour both sides.

I got the spy hole - waste of time but then we do have a bit of glass can see through, prob good if no glass

NicoAndTheNiners · 28/08/2018 18:03

Thanks everyone, I’m actually swaying more to a white inside now.

Have had a quote from Solidor now and it’s £200 more than WeDoDoors but I prefer the style slightly so think I may go with them.

We have loads of glass so assumed we'd be able to see through it, but it's so frosted!

Marmaladegin · 28/08/2018 18:48

I ordered one online. Compositedoors.co.uk I think. It was rather big, £800 ish and I love it. Got a local window fitter to fit it. I'd do same again I will say however that ddog has managed to scratch it Angry

I bought a Ludlow Solidor in their grey. The glass is opaque but flat and not textured. There is a door knocker, Yale lock, and number. It is very smart. It suits the house. I have seen some replacement doors that have faded on the estate where my house is. Reds, blacks and navy seem to be less colourfast in cheaper doors. I would not have a cheap dark coloured door.

The door the builder installed in our holiday house looks like wood (not remotely my taste) but it’s perfect after 10 years and it’s right on the Cornish coast so takes a battering!

I had front and back door replaced with composite in a house about 10 years ago. Still looked amazing 2 years ago when I sold it!

So solid and secure and no mucking aboit with painting.

joeybarnett · 29/08/2018 09:47

Absolutely.

Agree with Serbska - really long lasting and low maintenance. And of course they look really nice too :-)

endurancedoors.co.uk/composite-doors/ Is where ours is from.

Yes, love our Solidor

We put a dark blue (white inside) composite front door in a rental maisonette. Had to replace the original Edwardian door since it was very flimsy, not sufficiently secure.
Still looks very nice 6 years later, and in fact the owners of the downstairs maisonette installed one very similar.

We have a Rockdoor in chartwell green outside/white inside and it’s brilliant. No more draughts, definitely quieter. White inside was our personal preference though as it brightens up the inside of our house.

Has anybody had a stable type composite door fitted ?

redsummershoes · 29/08/2018 12:33

we looked at a stable door for the back but decided for a full one.
apparently they warp easier plus they are less insulated than a full door.

our front door is pillar box red, paint brush effect, white inside.
looks as good as when installed 7 years ago.

sparklepops123 · 29/08/2018 12:44

Thanks red

Solidor here too. Did lots of research & choice was between Solidor & Rockdoor. Loved a Solidor design so went with that. It's beautiful - we have the London door in Anthracite Grey with . Opted for grey inside and out (with grey frame inside & out too) with Park Lane bespoke glass - personally think it looks much nicer / finished as one colour throughout. Having said that, our hall is white with white woodwork so light, also grey inside avoided the problem of different whites making parts look discoloured.

Solid, warm - but biggest thing for us is security. Previous wooden door was locked in when we were burgled Sad. Don't feel that's a possibility now which is priceless.

Someone at work reckons I'm bonkers for considering solidor at 1.4k. She says she got two composite doors for that price from a small, local firm who make their own.

Did anyone haggle with solidor?

I'm nervous a cheaper door might not be such good quality.

I tried several Door companies and brands, they were all between £1-2k. So I think it's fairly standard. Ours is the peacock blue Amalfi and was £1.2k installed
