Do you have one and how much did it cost?

I've had a quote that seems too low and I'm a bit worried that it's too good to be true, stove supplied and fitted for 2k. My other quote was £4,200 which I thought was steep.

The cost to people's health is huge. Wood burners are a large factor in poor air quality in cities, and air pollution is responsible for killing thousands of people per year. Why people are still thinking about installing them is beyond me.

And all those coal power stations producing our electricity are so much better!

My partner bought an old French enamel wood burner and he refurbished it for under £200. A Hetas Engineer fitted the chimney flue and checked the burner. The Hetas certificate was awarded. Total cost under £1000. Have bought a second wood burner brand new from an auction, half of shop price. If you read the laws it is ok to burn kiln dried wood and smoke free coal. Check if you are in a smoke free zone, before installation. Traffic probably pollutes more than fires.

MrsJamin, Im not in a city or even near one, I need one for heating the house out of necessity not a fad.

We've just been quoted £1500 to install flue, install stone hearth (supplied separately) & stovax burner is £995 (although their prices are literally going up this week!)

nico just in case you are interested (and mostly because I can't believe I know this) but of the 401 UK power stations only 8 or 9 are coal fired.

I know this because OH occasionally works unloading coal ash from boats from Spain because we don't have enough here. Its used to make cement.

Oh and to answer the question out stovax 7 cost £2500 it included new liner, slate hearth and sandstone mantle/surround. Plus 2 days digging our the horrendous old fire to make space. I think we got a bargain.
