If you can afford it then I would buy. Bearing in mind interest rates are likely to go up. We are in the process of buying and our mortgage will be £200 cheaper than rent. You need to be in the right place financially and maturity wise to buy. You cant easily upsticks and go travelling if you have a mortgage to pay for. Renting gives you more flexibility.

Need more info.

How much money do you have?

Is your job secure?

Where do you intend to live and for how long?

Do you have a partner who would split rent/mortgage with you?

Going by your username, if you are 18, I'd rent and travel around a bit before buying anywhere.

Definitely buy in my opinion if/when you are in a position to do so. Saving for a mortgage when frittering money away on rent is extremely hard. There is also not a lot of security in renting - we have had to move twice at short notice due to the landlords "needing the property back". I am much much happier now we are home owners as that stability is important to me.

Have you both saved up a deposit? Are you putting in the same amount each as a deposit?

Have you both lived together before? If not, I'd try renting together first (a house share even with a couple of mates) before buying together.

You're only young, both of you, you have plenty of time to buy a place when you want to in the future (and house prices in Liverpool aren't too bad compared to some parts of the country).
