If an offer is accepted from someone paying cash and there is no chain and the property being purchased is empty, how long should the process take before the purchaser can move in?

The house has gone down in value, so I'll never get back what I've paid for it/spent on it.

Never, ever buy a house in an "up and coming area".

maybe it will go up again?
Im hoping to move somewhere that I don't want to sell again anyway. I don't live somewhere there are up and coming areas, rural poor location. we have a very small budget so wouldn't be able to buy to make money. And can't go far from support services. Just looking to live by the sea. :-)

Nope.

Traditionally poor area and likely to remain poor for the forseeable future.

It's a roof over my head, no mortgage now and in a low council tax bracket, so there are things to be grateful for....

It can be done in under a month easily if all the searches come back quickly and there are no land registry issues. This relies on the buyer and seller having all of the paperwork they need immediately available and it all being straightforward. People generally aren't though and there is usually something that causes a delay.

I have bought chain free in 5 weeks including a mortgage application - but we were "on it" and pushed every step.

yes always things to be grateful for.
The unsure- that's great. I think my mum will be on it;.
Off to view tomorrow morning.
