falling apples from neighbour poses a danger to my partner

My partner is severely sight limited and likes to stroll around the garden as she feels comfortable walking in a place she knows well, however, recently she has stood on and nearly fell or twisted her ankle on some apples that have fallen in the garden from next doors apple tree which overhangs in our garden. Am I right in thinking that because this poses a danger to health it is the neighbours responsibility to cut the branches and stop the apples falling into our garden? I have asked the neighbour twice but he doesn't seem bothered.

Can you offer up the apples for picking on freecycle?

They can then pick the ones overhanging and take them away?

Or ask locally if someone wants to come and get them?

I would put it on the local facebook Spotting page.

perhaps you could tie garden netting to the branches or fence to form a sort of hammock that will catch falling fruit.

It is quite cheap and very light, but very prone to tangling. Smaller pieces are easier to handle.

Certainly use a "helping hand" to pick stuff off the ground. Haven't you got one? If you have a flower bed you can kick apples off the grass and they will soon rot away.

flopsyrabbit1 · 23/08/2018 20:48

how do you manage the maintanance of the garden normaly??

NapQueen · 23/08/2018 20:50

to be quite frank im pleased my time on this planet is nearly up as the future is not bright at all

Well that escalated quickly. Could you make an appointment with the GP for a counselling referal?

ShatnersBassoon · 23/08/2018 20:56

What are your usual arrangements for garden maintenance?

hestia2018 · 23/08/2018 21:09

Do your neighbours realise the apples are a problem? They might not be aware it’s such a problem.

I help my neighbours out, for example we’ve taken things to the tip for my neighbours who don’t have a car. If it was me I’d help chop the branches back.

Or the other option is ask on a local internet forum - I bet there’s lots of people who would like free apples in return for keeping your garden tidy. On one of our local forums people ask for windfall apples for chickens and chutney!

Have you even mentioned it to the neighbours?

RoseAndRose · 23/08/2018 21:34

Who does your gardening at present?

flopsyrabbit1 · 23/08/2018 21:51

I asked about who does the gardening a few post up ,why is it being repeatedly askedConfused

RoseAndRose · 23/08/2018 21:55

Because I'm a very slow typist.

And because asking things more than once happens a lot on MN, but doesn't usually lead to tellings-off.

dudsville · 23/08/2018 21:56

You're the one who's moat aware of what's going on.

DownWentTheFlag · 23/08/2018 21:58

I use a litter picking tool to pick up the fallen apples in my garden.
It is poor if you neighbour is fully aware of your reasons for asking, and fails to chop back the branches (presumably the branches that overhang your garden could be cut back to the trunk of the tree). However you could look at it this way - you’ve had loads of responses on MN from people trying to offer helpful advice. Even if your neighbour is a bit of a pain, you’re still part of a friendly community here on MN.

Why don't you post on a local Facebook page and see if someone would be willing to come and help you for free? It happens on mine and people are generally really helpful.

There are loads of nice people out there, it's just unfortunate your neighbour isn't one of them.

SmellMyBeads · 23/08/2018 23:10

Seems a bit strange. As PP's have said who cuts your grass etc? Get them to chop the hell put of the apple tree and offer them back to your neighbour. I wouldn't go turfing them over unless you already had a chilly relationship.
