Council will not remove sofa for us

We ordered several things to be taken to the dump and did explain it is from 2nd floor flat. They turned up and refused to move one sofa stating it was too heavy. It was brought here so I would have thought it would be easier to get it down. Cannot move till issue resolved . Have complained but they still refuse to help

When you booked it to be collected. Did you not tell them what it was?

HomeOfMyOwn · 23/08/2018 13:53

Here they only remove things if you get them outside for them and charge more than man & van with disposal licence type thingy.

What condition is sofa in? Could it be sold, freecycled, or given to a charity that takes furniture?

Racecardriver · 23/08/2018 13:55

Just put it up for free on fb Market Place. Someone will take it.

Lucisky · 23/08/2018 16:16

Can't you get some mates to help you take it out? If it's going to the tip you could break it up to make it easier to move. I have never heard of a council that will actually remove the item from your house - they always have to be kerbside.

SD1978 · 23/08/2018 16:17

Any reason you can't or won't move it yourself? I'd assume they'll take it if you get it to ground level.
Did you get it up there yourself?

Plural · 23/08/2018 17:07

I just checked my council's website it says items have to be brought to street level.
Freecycle / Gumtree it for free. People will come and collect it

Munchyseeds · 23/08/2018 17:48

Kerbside and dry here too
Is there a reason you can't move it yourself? Have you got some friends who can help?
As a last resort you may have to pay a couple of strong lads

NapQueen · 23/08/2018 17:53

Kerbside and dry here too.

We recent had some furniture picked up by the council and we had to put it outside on the drive. They wouldn't come in the house or take anything downstairs. Think it's standard policy in most places.

When i had stuff like beds and sofa's to be removed from a first floor flat I used a company and two big strong chaps arrived in my sitting room and removed the lot. It wasn't cheap but it wasn't as expensive as I feared it might be. Look up rubbish removal companies.

Our council also only does kerbsite unless you are disabled or elderly.

ScreamingValenta · 23/08/2018 18:49

Could it be dismantled?

LeftRightCentre · 23/08/2018 18:51

Kerbside and dry here, too. They are not removal men.

TrippingTheVelvet · 23/08/2018 18:52

How's it too heavy? Was it left in the rain?
