Bath headache

Hi

Just looking for some advice as I've been living here for years (got a mortgage) and basically just 'making do' but every now and then I get so fed up/depressed and want change!

Ok, so I have a smallish bathroom. There is a bath with an overbath shower. The bath is NOT sitting against 2 walls like most are, it's against one wall only, half way down the room. It has been like this since I bought the flat, and there's a round curtain rod with shower curtain. There's no room for a separate shower cubicle.

This is a bloody nightmare, as water goes everywhere spraying past the shower curtain and the shower curtain is disgusting and clings to you and also gets riddled with mould. So I have to replace it now and then and I hate doing that because it's not very environmentally friendly. It also makes me feel like I'm showering in a hostel or something (no offence to hostels but I'm too old to be dealing with this!)

Ideally I'd like to rip it out and get a shower cubicle fitted as I never have a bath, showers only. But everyone says that no bath will put off prospective buyers (if I'm ever in a position to sell/move). So that's not good.

So, what I'd like instead would be a screen that goes across the 2 open sides of the bath by the shower part, preventing water from spraying everywhere. Is such a thing available? If it is it would be the answer to my prayers!

Any advice and/or links to companies that could help? I don't have a massive budget for fittings, maybe 2-300 at most. Thanks :)

How about a C shaped shower curtain rod instead? It will need to be attached to the wall at both ends of the bath and supported by a bracket fixed to the ceiling. You can buy extra wide shower curtains or have two separate ones. When we moved into our house there was one of those awful circular things - they make showering a horrible, claustrophobic experience. Our bath is in front of a window and we have a shower curtain rail either side until we get round to redoing the bathroom.

Personally for me no bath would be an issue. However, I do have a small dc so baths are something we need.
I also love a bath so I can escape the little terror.
Are you planning on moving within the next 5 years?, if so try and consider the area and the type of people who will want your property. If you want to rip the bath out, what sort of people does your flat appeal to? Are you in an area with lots of young families, or are your type of property aimed at professionals, or older people in a retirement type area.

If you have no intention of moving for 5-7 years, fuck it. Rip the bugger out and get a shower installed. You can always add a bath tub back if you decide to move. Alternatively if you tried to sell and the feedback was, great property, but no bath... well you can add it back in.

I agree unless you plan to move in 5 years rip it out!

Thanks everyone.

The C shape rod looks interesting, the only thing is the water sprays out the space between the curtain and the wall. It's really annoying and I worry about mould. Been putting towels down but ugh.

I've been here over 10 years anyway so it might be an idea to look into just getting a shower cubicle put in, can't see me moving any time soon.
