Bank not wanting to extend mortgage offer

The bank don’t want to extend mortgage offer until it is certain the exchange date will be after it expires ( in a week) this seems insane to me and everything just will be delayed further still when we pass the date (we will 100% not exchange in time) ? Has anyone had exp of this.
I am the middle of a very delayed chain!

I assume it is safer for them to make you apply again so they get your most up to date financials

Yep, we had to re apply again (and bloody pay again!)

Makes sense if you appreciate the flow of capital. They've purchased a block of money from the wholesale financial markets (say £100m at 0.4%), and they're filling it with customers. To hold the offer open, they need to fill it quickly. Sounds like they already have filled it, from what you say.

You may have to re-apply, in which case you'll fall into another block, but it depends at what price they purchased that block (maybe 0.5% this time).

I had this. I had the choice of reapplying from scratch with no guarantee that I'd be accepted again or that I'd get the same deal (my credit wasn't great at the time) and that this would mean the whole sale could fall through as the seller might pull out if renegotiated mortgage wasn't ready in time OR taking the mortgage early and making a payment before the keys were in my possession. This was after they had extended the offer twice. I took the mortgage early and thankfully everything worked out but it was unbelievably stressful.

They want us to apply again now, waiting to hear about the increased rates :(

They're not charging you a fee for doing so, are they?
