Moving to Falmouth

Hi, at the moment I am living in the SE with my family, we've been here four years and now would like to move to Falmouth. My daughter is nearly 17 and we want to move somewhere safe and friendly, where she can be close to a college/uni/friends, yet is good for all our pets (cats - safe road / rabbits - safe garden!). We are thinking about using an agency to help with finding us a house but that is quite expensive and our budget isn't that high so in two minds about it. I don't know Falmouth at all, but it's been recommended to us, and we are so fed up with the fast pace of life where we are and the expense. I keep looking at rightmove but have no idea about areas at all, so it's very hard. Any help welcomed. Thank you.

Can you get down for a visit? I’d definitely want to see the area with my own eyes! I’m from Cornwall but I’ve been living over seas for a decade.

I'm not sure, I have loads of pets and two of them are ill at the moment so I can't get away but my partner says he will try and get down next weekend. Sometimes it's still hard to really know the right area after a brief visit too. Are you in Australia?

I am in the process of moving to Cornwall. It is a beautiful county, we are moving for a new life and very much looking forward to getting settled.

We fell in love with our village in the winter, but I would say anyone moving to Cornwall needs to see it in winter.

I think Falmouth is a good choice as it is a thriving year round town.

Could you rent for 6 months, to check it out. You may find that you find a village nearby that is the best of both worlds, but you won't find that unless you are there.

I assume you have easily transferable jobs? Jobs are thin on the ground in Cornwall.

Have you looked at Callington? It is near Saltash/Plymouth ( so near a University) but also closer to major transport links.

I prefer a slower pace of life now (well, always actually!) I don't think I will miss town life. If you want a mixture though, Falmouth or Saltash/Callington would be perfect.

You really need to go though! Wait until after the school holidays, travel will be easier.

I live in Kent and on holiday in Falmouth at the mo. It's lovely but you absolutely must visit and definitely in winter too. I should think many parts of cornwall could be quite lonely in winter - not saying that's true for Falmouth though! You'd need to look at jobs as much of it is probably seasonal/tourism related.

Thank you very much, hooliodancer and seven201, okay will definitely go and have a look. Would find it hard to be somewhere isolated. Be lovely to be somewhere with a strong friendly community. Renting is a good option but with lots of pets it's never easy, but will have a look too. My partner is an architect and is staying in the SE until he can find something in the area, I'm hoping that will be easier than it sounds! I'm thinking that he will probably have to work in Plymouth. I'll be looking for work when my daughter goes to college, teaching or whatever I can find! Thank you for all your help :) xx
