How to make old concrete/flags in a yard look better

Hi,

I have an area of old grimy flagstones and a further piece of concrete outside my house which is a constant source of shame to me. Tonight I went outside at dusk, grabbed a paint scraper and chiselled up carpet-like layers of mossy muddy stuff, thankfully all bone dry due to recent weather! Swept like a crazed loon and dumped it all in a rubble bag.

I am now consumed by the urge to clean said swept manky areas arbor first light but don’t know what to use. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How do you keep your outside spaces moss and dirt free?

I don’t have access to a pressure washer sadly!

Thanks in advance.

Iron sulphate kills it within hours. You can buy big bags.

i once sprayed mine with kitchen cleaner, and scrubbed them....on my hands and knees, one by one.

we have a jet washer thing now, much less labour intensive!

Jet washer

ops..posted before I realised you don't have access to a pressure/jet washer. Good old Jeyes Fluid is also great but does have quite a strong smell.

Can you hire a pressure washer? That's what we did and it made a world of difference.

Hmm, I may try iron sulphate or Jeyes Fluid first and then if no joy, explore hiring a pressure washer - thanks for replies! I’m determined they will be as clean as possible by lunchtime tomorrow Smile

Cheaper and greener to lay your hands on a pressure washer!

Ask on a local fb page if anyone has one you could borrow/rent for an hour or two.

Shockers that’s an excellent idea!

Have asked the question. In the meantime based on the above suggestion of Jeyes Fluid I searched about bleach and found this link
