Waiting for the keys... how on earth do people move in one day.

We're very lucky that we are staying with in laws but we completed this morning and are still waiting for the keys. Estate agent said there is a few hours grace period but at what point do we start to get annoyed?

How do people move in one day if you don't get the keys until late on.

Aaargh this is so stressful. I'm never doing it again.

I think you start to get annoyed any time after 12.00 noon. If the money has been sorted then it is your property, and while it is usual to be a bit flexible I think half past three is taking the pee.

I hope you are happy in your new home

The keys are yours at completion. You own the house and are entitled to take immediate occupancy. Go and get them or if the sellers are still at the house I suggest you rock up - NOW!!

We didn’t get our keys until 4pm on moving day because the first solicitors in the chain didn’t send funds until 11am (then it had to clear, and our solicitor had to send to our vendor etc.) It’s horribly stressful.

Your solicitor needs to make some calls, EA will be largely useless as per.

Solicitor is chasing it up now after they eventually answered.

We were first in the chain so got the call just after dinner time, honestly this whole process has aged me 10 bloody years.

We didn't get the keys at all! I turned up to estate agents at 2 pm after call from solicitor to confirm completion at noon to collect them (with our 4 day old DS) to find there were no keys. And estate agent could not get hold of the seller.

We had a locksmith arriving at 4 pm to change the locks - so he ended up having to break into our new house! Luckily found an open window and went in that way. He changed all the locks and left.

The seller turned up later in the evening - apparently he'd broken down on the motorway in the afternoon and his phone had run out of charge. He would have been late in any case - apparently because he had been visiting his daughter who had just had a baby - same day as me! He was very embarrassed when he saw our baby and realised the hassle he had created.

On our way to pick keys up now.

However seller still needs to clear the garage so will post those keys tomorrow. I've lost the will to argue now. Thank God we aren't moving today.

You can change the locks on the garage and chuck all the stuff out if you want to!

If you want to be nice and let them come back and pick stuff up that is up to you.

But if the garage burns down tonight they are effectively uninsured! As your contents cover won't cover their stuff.

We turned up just as he was leaving. Very apologetic, wife was sat in the van and was clearly avoiding all eye contact. Thankfully they managed to get everything out in the last load.

Whole thing has been unbelievably stressful. I'm never ever doing it again.

Dp has already started stripping the hideous wallpaper off and the locksmith is coming in the morning.
