Has anyone bought a house whilst in a new job?

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has purchased a house whilst being in a new job?
I've been there 2 months (contractor now permanent) so have a pay slip, my contract and previous P60 as proof of earnings, DH has been in his job years. There's a house we'd love to buy but I'm worried the application wouldn't be approved due to my job situation so I wondered if anyone else has been in my position and if it worked out? We're FTB, have AIP and good deposit.
Thanks

If you’ve got a mortgage offer and a deposit why wouldn’t you put an offer on a house?

Some mortgages may not be available to you if you're in your probationary period. We bought shortly after DH got a new job and used a broker. We were excluded from some mortgages, but there were still plenty of good rates available.

I would confirm asap with whoever gave you the AIP whether your job situation will be a problem so that you know where you stand before you start putting offers in.

My husband is in a new job and the only hoop we've had to jump through was getting a copy of his employment history. It gave the last 4 years of his employment. Apart from that the application was smooth sailing

I applied for a mortgage three months after starting my new job and was approved instantly - DH had been in his job for years, and I provided three months worth of payslips x

Thank you all for your replies. Appreciated.

Down - just being cautious, I wouldn't want to offer getting hopes up and then letting them down if the mortgage wasn't approved.

The AIP is from my bank, who would be happy to lend (we had 2 purchases fall through previously and they were doing the mortgages on those) however I've seen another lender who would be £150 a month less for the same mortgage (lower interest rate). It's a lot of money to save/overpay

Aph - thank you, that's reassuring. I can definitely prove my previous employment pay history. I don't have a probation period either thankfully

I started a new job in the April and then we found a house in the August and started the ball rolling straight away. Didn't have any
Problems

I got a mortgage on my own within the first month of starting my job. All I had to do was provide my contract and bank statements to my financial adviser. That said I did have a hefty deposit so the LTV wasn't too bad, but it shows it is doable.

Sorry to cut in op. But those of you that managed it who were you mortgages with?

EmmaC78 · 14/08/2018 17:52

I got a mortgage with Scottish Widows when I was only half way through a 6 month probation period.

We bought last year before my husband had started his new job, and he and I were both on fixed term contracts with short terms left to run and I had nothing lined up. He had the contract for his new role. We were FTB. We had a large deposit (40%) and were borrowing well within affordability levels on a relatively short term. Our mortgage is with TSB.

I started a new job when buying a house. I initially didn't even have one payslip. They accepted my contract as proof of pay. I also sent them my first payslip when I had it.

JohnnyKarate · 14/08/2018 18:09

Our mortgage was with nationwide by the way!

saturdaynightgin · 14/08/2018 18:45

I’m in your position, been in my job 2.5 months, but have no probation, so didn’t have any problem at all with securing an AIP

JustLurk1ng · 14/08/2018 18:54

I changed jobs at the same week as we put our offer on our house. I knew in advance I might be changing job so worked with a mortgage broker who found a lender that approved offers without pay history (signed job offer was sufficient). If you already have a mortgage offer I'd chat with their advisors to check. Might also be worth reaching out to a mortgage advisor for them to suss our backup vendors. We used which who are great, and they didn't charge a fee until our formal mortgage application was submitted - so if you're just consulting with them for a backup option it'd be free.

Yes I have. It was joint and DH has been in his job for years. I have been contracting with the company for almost 2 years when we started the whole mortgage process. That didn’t stop us getting our mortgage getting approved. 3 weeks before exchange, I got a permanent job in the same company, nothing changed. We had a broker though and the mortgage is with nationwide.
