Househunting - not being proactive enough!

Is anyone else the same as us? We really want to move, we have nothing to sell and a mortgage agreed in principal. We've narrowed down where we want to move to and keep looking at new properties coming up on Rightmove etc but everything that is up for sale at the moment is a bit 'meh' and we're averaging about 1 viewing a month! We know we need to view them anyway, but trying to fit in viewings around work and weekends is so much of a headache that we're just not bothering, I'm so annoyed with how lazy we're being but I just keep telling myself the right house will come up at the right time. Is anyone else this despondent when it comes to house-hunting? Has anyone else been this unproductive but it's come right in the end?

You don't sound like a very serious buyer to be honest.

Either you want to buy or you don't, if you are to tired or don't have time to view houses then your really not that serious.

Just make sure when you find the right one and have an offer accepted that you are more focused on paperwork and strong things moving as from a seller (and buyers) perspective there's nothing worse than someone who takes two weeks to find a solicitor or to sign a piece of paperwork and return it. I wouldn't worry, sometimes the market where you are looking is a bit weak, it's like that for us now. A lot of meh on the market ...

Just a matter of waiting I'm sure as soon as you see something of interest you'll be motivated to go look. No point wasting weekends looking at something your not interested in

Have you contacted local estate agents directly? Fair enough, it was when the market was a bit stronger, but the house we bought didn't even make it on to Rightmove....

SallyCinnamon3009 · 14/08/2018 16:02

Currently in the process and agree with PP you do t sound very serious about moving. I've been to view quite a few off right move and they nearly always look better in reality then they do online. Have you thought about contacting local estate agents? I'm on a mailing list with about three so get emails with properties that they feel would be suitable or have recently been reduced. It can get a bit boring just trawling right move/Zoopla constantly.

Notyetthere · 14/08/2018 16:06

I echo what PPs are saying. Ensure you are on the mailing lists of EAs as they will send you details of properties in your search area thst money your criteria before they even get on to rightmove. The house we are in now never made it on to rightmove.

lutjanus · 14/08/2018 16:15

The house I ended up buying I was totally meh about on rightmove.

Loved it the moment I went inside. I think the estate agent photos were really badly taken or something.

Particularly if you're looking in a small specific area you should really be seeing most of what fits your minimum criteria.

lutjanus · 14/08/2018 16:16

Though agree the whole process is time and soul-sucking process.

Ive found the opposite and the smells!! 🤢

Nichelette · 14/08/2018 20:47

I'm finding the few that are available to us meh or overpriced too. Happy to do viewings but not much to view!

ianbealesonwheels · 14/08/2018 21:05

I’ve always had the opposite problem- browsing Rightmove when we aren’t planning on moving then finding a ‘dream home’! It could be not much is coming on to the market over the summer. Could it also be your budget isnt quite enough to get everything you want?

Atthebottomofthesea · 14/08/2018 22:15

The house we bought we only viewed because I massively widened my search criteria on rightmove, we did struggle though, ours had sold and just nothing was coming up. We were serious, but there was just nothing that was suitable.

We found the right property, even if it ticked pretty much none of the boxes.

Keep looking.

FritzyMousey · 14/08/2018 22:28

I think we’re both hoping to find our dream house on our budget, think you always hope for more than you can afford. A lot of the housing stock locally is 30s bungalows which are a bit meh, we should be viewing them anyway but we’re probably holding out for one of the few Victorian semi’s to come up.
