Damned new kitchen tap - water won't come out of it!!

Just bought and fitted this tap: www.diy.com/departments/cooke-lewis-bilbrough-matt-kitchen-side-lever-spring-neck-spout-tap/1583484_BQ.prd

You may say, Jesus, are you tapped (get it, tapped?!) spending so much on a kitchen sink tap, but I want something that won't explode and soak me and my kitchen in water which is what has happened this morning for the second time in about 8 months with two different cheap taps.

I've fitted it (it's not rocket science) and turned the stopcock back on, hear the water flowing, under-sink connections are holding firm, nothing leaking where the flexible hoses fit into the tap just under where it pops out of the sink at the top surface, all appears good.

Couldn't use the hoses supplied as the cold one was too long so it ended up really kinked and would not have worked. Couldn't use the hot one provided as whilst the length was fine, the fitting on the end wasn't of the type that would actually fit onto the copper pipe - so I had to use both the old hot and old cold water hoses as both fit at the ends and the lengths are fine. Cannot see what negative this would cause. I also swapped over the old 'o' rings from the new hoses not being used onto the old hoses being reused so that they were fresh and would have decent lifespan.

But when I turn the tap on you get a spurt and then - nothing. No water flowing out of the bog basic tap part of it where the water's just meant to run down into the sink, nor when I press the lever on the pull out bit - just a spurt, then nothing.

Have I done something wrong? Is there some additional lever or something that I need to press, turn or whatever that will free the water that I can tell is there inside the tap, such that it actually comes out of the tap, you know, like a tap's meant to do?!??!

Been without water all day, drenched once and had three false starts fitting it in a tight spot with horrendous access only to find when all the bits are connected and in the right place, no water comes out. Which is pretty useless for a tap!

Anyone? Any ideas???

Smart tap ! I was going to say do you have enough water pressure as in the past that type has needed 1.5 bar minimum, but it says suitable for high and low ? So am a bit stumped too.

Have you definitely turned the isolation valves to the correct position? There could be an airlock somewhere or possibly sediment clogging the water flow through the hoses.

Thank you wonderful people for your thoughts and suggestions.

The fault is not in the installation but in the operation of the tap - clearly How To Turn A Fancy Pull-Out Tap On is a lesson I missed - I wasn't doing it right!!!

Goes to stand in corner with dunce hat on....

After going round the house running taps and flushing toilets to eradicate air lock issues (well, hopefully, if there were any) I persevered with said tap and hey presto, out came water.

It's working perfectly, as it should be, once the operator turns and twiddles the right parts. Oh the shame.
