Brought a house for £106k, as houses on the road usually go for £190k. The house was brought from an old lady who had not touched it since the 1930s
So far we have done
Extension
Complete New kitchen with appliances
New bathroom with suite and tiling
Re- wiring
New windows
New flooring
New fireplaces
Everywhere replastered
New rads
Painted everywhere
New skirting boards in some places
Ordered new carpets
Prob other stuff I gave forgot

And I am fed up with it! I know this is what I wanted but I really underestimated the stress, time and money which goes into renovating a house. Today I have to pay out to a plumber to change old tame. I have no money left each month. When I think we’re there I find something else that needs doing. I hate the house now I just see £ signs when I look at it or think about it. We only have the tiler to finish and carpets (she says). This house has caused endless arguments and stress with me and dh. We have spend prob £35k doing it up and owe £15k in debt which we then have to pay back.
To add to the upheaval I have had some rubbish cowboy tradesmen, a 6 month old baby and dh is having problems at work. We find problems all the time.
Sorry to be negative but feeling rather depressed.

I hear you!
Current doing the same. You've done a lot more than me so far though!

Don't let the plumber actually take the copper tank. It will be worth about £80+ in scrap.

Why not take a break from it all now? It sounds like you've pretty much finished? Flowers

I feel your pain.
We bought a house last year just thinking it needed cosmetic redecorating. Since moving in, we are finding more and more things to do. Underneath it all, it turns out the house is in pretty bad condition and bodged up all over the place. I'm starting to hate the house and we never planned on needing to spend so much money making it nice.
At least it sounds like you are nearly done with your renovations. Did you plan to stay in the house? If your feelings about living there have changed so much, would you consider moving? It sounds like you may potentially have a nice profit on the value.

How have you done all that for £35k?!!!!

Leobynature · 12/08/2018 13:41

£17k on extension
£4K wren kitchen £700 to neighbour to fit (his a kitchen fitter)
£800 to supply and fit bathroom
£3k windows
£600 on integrated fridge freezer, and cooker (using old washer dryer)
Mate charged £300 to tile bathroom, kitchen and fireplaces (getting log burners when can afford them)
£550 for downstairs laminate (b&q sale) £350 to fit said laminate (although he did a shit job and has to come back)
£550 to supply and fit upstairs carpet
£2k to brother in law to plaster whole house
Brought 4 new rads cheap from
eBay (can’t remember cost) got plumber to refit old rads and new ones for £360
Same plumber charging £280 to change tank today
Spent £80 yesterday to have gas cooker installed
Spent £110 in Dulux paint when bogof deal
In April bank hols

And lots of others things I don’t remember. Somethings we got at mates rates other things (electrics) we got ripped off

I keep praying the end is insight, house similar sold over the road for £200k so that’s good. This was supposed to be my dream house but it’s a nightmare.

Instead of complaining, celebrate the fact you've done it all for 35k.

Re-train your mindset to be thankful when you look at everything that has been altered and the expenditure spent.

Book a cheap holiday for a change of scenery.

huggybear · 12/08/2018 14:27

Yeah I think you've done amazingly! I thought an extension was about 100k, clearly I'm wrong...!

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 12/08/2018 15:43

Yeah, you have done an amazing job on such a tight budget! Well done you! Take a breather, you have really earned it.

OftenHangry · 12/08/2018 16:18

That's great price! Think about a future. You spent 35k, but you easily added 90k to the value

Whatsnewwithyou · 12/08/2018 16:22

Amazing you have bought (not brought) all that for 35k. I bet you will have increased your house value by much more than you've spent. Hopefully when the stress is in the past you'll start to feel much better about the whole thing.

XingMing · 12/08/2018 19:09

Congratulations, you would appear to have won big time! But now is probably the right time to ease up on yourself. Save the finishing touches until you can enjoy the result.

Thanks ladies. The end is near 😊
