If you can please help? Our boiler, Potterton suprima he50 wall mounted system boiler, is showing the fault code for flow thermistor days before we are due to exchange!

We have had an engineer out who tested the things and has said no problem with the boiler it's a circulation problem. He tried changing the pump but it showed the fault code again after a period of about 10 mins. He said we needed a powerflush - quoting £650 to do this.

Wanting to save money as we are just about to move, we found a company to do it for less. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.

We are pulling our hair out at having spent all this money but still having the problem. We really want this fixed for the buyers and would love some ideas on the possible cause but are reluctant to call out another engineer at £60 an hour who may not be able to fix it!

Can anyone offer any advice on what the problem may be?

You haven't given the fault code so I can't look it up for you, perhaps Google will help, sometimes these things can be fixed easily and cheaply if you know what it is.

Could you contact Potterton directly to talk with them? We had a problem with our Worcester Bosch and both we and the Scottish Gas engineer got in touch with them.

if you can do basic plumbing, you could give it a chemical clean. The fluid costs about £15

It would be useful to know how old your radiators are; when the system was last cleaned; and if you have a system filter. How often does it need topping up?

Sludge and sediment are common causes. Maybe that's not yours, but the cost is so low it's worth a try.

Do you think your engineer was experienced on your make and model of boiler?

edit

on re-reading, I see you've had it flushed, so the engineer's diagnosis was presumably wrong.

You need a better engineer who understands your system.

in the DIYnot thread, "pump red hot" indicates water is not circulating through the pump. Most often due to pipe blockage causing lack of water, but can be jammed pump due to age, debris or dry running.

But an engineer should have checked that, it takes about 30 seconds.

Thank You. I have found a local engineer who has knowledge of potterton boilers. Please keep your 🤞 for us!

Fault codes - red, flashing green, green
Also - red, flashing green, flashing green

It resets itself, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after a minute.
