Designer is coming soon and I have some ideas but don't want to miss anything then regret it once it's done.

We're having a curved units so an oval shape island. 1.8 long I need to house the following.

A bin?
Shelves at the end for cook books
Space for all my baking stuff
Space for dried jars like pasta, flour, rice etc.
Somewhere for all my herbs and spices I am so sick of rooting through the cupboards.

I was thinking of having 1 unit for a slide out drawer with a bin the the rest made into large drawers for the jars, etc and a secret drawer for the herbs and spices then on the end 2 shelves for books.

Does that sound ok? It'll be worktop only as I want the space for food prep and baking. No electrical outlets needed.

On the opposite side will be space for 2 stools.

Have I missed anything? Is there something I should absolutely have?

Power socket!

No power socket, our floor was laid in March there's no way I'm having it taken up again for a power socket!

Yes to power unless you never use and mixers or blenders.

My island is double width. So is about 1300 wide. The huge advantage is storage both sides.

I don’t like food storage under the counter and have my herbs in a larder unit and not in the island. I have two bins in the Island: one for general and one for recycling. My Island is nearly double the length of yours and I have a veg prep sink in it and a hob with oven under. Obviously you haven’t put a hob into yours so is it all prep and no cooking? I would find that annoying as they go together.

I have pan drawers, baking storage under the oven and a round table at one end with book storage under it in a curved end. The far side is a water softener, bbq stuff, picnic stuff and electrical equipment. All the jars and food items are in the larder unit and I have a dedicated pasta drawer.

I’m not sure I would want to be bending down all the time to get food. What will you do when something is at the back of a 600 deep cupboard at floor level? It’s very annoying!

What else is in the kitchen that could store the food items?

Food stuff will be in large pull out drawers not cupboards. The hob will be directly behind me so no need to put that in the island.

I have an island fitted after rest of kitchen, so no sockets or plumbing either, and it's great. No problem whatsoever.
I have a pullout bin so all food waste gets swept into there as I prep. I thought about having a "porthole ' in the island for waste scraps to drop through but preferred a smooth top with no interruption.

Sounds good breakfast what else do you have in your island?

It's quite a small island - no breakfast bar seating.
Small cupboard with pull out bin, beside deep pan drawers (love these - would replace all lower cupboards with them if I could)
Other end, same deep pans drawers plus wine rack of course

Physically check the spices you want will fit in the hidden drawers, they aren’t all that deep - I think you’d have to lie spice bottles on their side. Also, it is slightly irritating having to open 2 drawers to get something out. I like our hidden cutlery drawer because of the way it looks but it does add an extra process. A pull out rack or 2 may work better.

I'll check thank you. Ideally I'd like to pull out a drawer and there the all are laid out beautifully in order no rummaging around. Herbs on one side spices on the other. I like neatness and for everything to have a place that's easy to get to. I may rethink the secret drawer if it's a pain in the arse.

Mines split level so pan drawers on the standard height side, with the hob and then open shelving and a wine rack on the other taller side, which were actually tall wall cabinets on legs. It works really well.
