Really like sisal herringbone carpet-anybody have it? How is it underfoot? Cleaning? Samples feel quite coarse and worried that it might be slippy on the stairs.

It has to be glued down, is rough underfoot and if anyone falls, spills are difficult to clean up and I can't think of a reason why I would have it.

We had it in last house - looked good, but very slippy especially on stairs. Would not choose it again.

Current house we had the cheapest wool-mix carpet we could find out throughout, as were running out of £ after renovation. Still looks great condition 10 years (of kids etc) later.

I found it a nightmare to keep clean. All those hairy bits just hold on to dust and fluff and my hoover hated it. I lived the look, hated the reality. Never again!

This is what I needed thank you...

You'll never get child vomit out of it Sad

Lived in a house that had it down - looked good... an eternity of wearing slippers at all times.

If you like the look of herringbone, there are wool carpets that look similar but are safe and cleanable. We have one from Crucial Trading (but I haven’t checked if they still do it) and Alternative Flooring do one in wool. They cost a lot though.

We have a plain wool velvet on some stairs and it’s great. Darker colour as we found lighter one did get marked. We have oak stairs but have steps to and from different areas on the landing.

Can't go barefoot. Ouch.

We had it in our old house and loved it. It was quite uncomfortable underfooot and although it was bombproof in terms of liquid spills it was difficult to get e.g. spilled lasagne cleaned up.

It's not suitable for stairs, far too slippy.

Solid dark colour carpets show every speck of dirt and dust - go lighter or for a heather type carpet.
