Hi everyone. I currently live in South Africa and will be moving to the UK in December. My husband and i have absolutely no idea to live. We know we do not want to live in London. So we were thinking the next best city would be Manchester for Jobs. I have two kids who are 1 and 4, and we are looking for a family friendly area. We will not have a car when first arriving so somewhere commutable. Also my hubby loves nature and the outdoors. Loves hiking and fishing etc. So this place would need to be greenish and easy to get to a park or something. Also i do not want it to remote where we would have to travel a distance just to by groceries etc. I am hoping you lovely moms can give me some insight as i have googled to death and thinking maybe i could get real help on this forum. Our budget for rental would be a max of £900pm. We will both be looking for Jobs, i will be looking for something Half Day, in order to spend time with the kids. Thank you.

Lymm and Stockton Heath are lovely. Good schools, also makes Liverpool very accessible which could be good for work?

Nix, I live in Uppermill and absolutely love it. Small village, lovely countryside nearby. Nice park, independent shops. Good schools. However one of my bugbears is there is a smallish Tesco but nearest big supermarket and Aldi are around 6 mikes away. Train station at greenfield, I know they have changed the timetable now but when I was commuting by train it was often late. Takes around one hour to centre of Manchester.

If I was looking again, I think new mills would pip it for me as bigger and transport links slightly better.

Saying that saddleworth has everything I need. Tough descion all of Manchester is amazing!

After re-reading my original comments, I saw that I didn't ever mention that after 6months of renting we bought around Stockport. It's really lovely 🙂

Property prices vary depending on exact area, but a bit more realistic than parts of Trafford. Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Cheadle Heath, Gately, then over towards Stockport itself which I'm not hugely familiar with, and the pricier end with Bramhall and Poynton.

Some nice kitchen shops around the area!

Commuting wise it's 20minute train into the city, schools are fine, and plenty going on. They're finishing an airport link Road which will make hitting the M56 a breeze.

All those areas are on the flight path, but on the landing flight path which is less obtrusive.

Uppermill/mossley and greenfield are all nice.
There’s slightly nicer corners of Stalybridge too and you will likely get a v nice house for your budget but the town centre is a dump, though only two stops into town...
