Painting external window and door frames

We bought a house last year, about 10 years old with wood frame double glazed windows. I knew I'd need to maintain the windows and he had mentally scheduled this for next year, but I'm rapidly realising that at least some of thrm need attention begirevthe bad weather later this year.

I've only ever had either upvc or white painted frames in the past but these have been painted a mid brown, to try and match the oak front and back door. I think they're probably made out of pine. The paint is flaking off and there's nothing underneath but bare wood so this was probably done by the original builder . I'm at a loss which paint to buy to paint them with, anyone done this and can recommend a paint make and type to make painted window frames look like a mid oak colour?

I’ve recently been looking into this as we are getting a couple of new windows an dneed to stain them to match the current ones. There are lots of wood stains available a bit like this:

So I was thinking we’ll probably use something like that.

Look at Sadolin products, that's what my dad uses on his wooden windows.

Thanks for the replies!

The Ronseal colours actually look as though they might match what we currently have. I guess I'm confused whether I can use a woodstain over the top of what looks like old paint? It's unlikely I'll be able to get every last little bit of old paint off there (especially as we're a 2-storey house and I loathe ladders so want to spend as little time as possible up there) though I'll obviously give it a good sand etc.

I always thought of woodstain as being for new, untreated wood, though I might have made an assumption there.

I wouldn't try to make them look like a mid oak tbh. Strip the paint off, prime and repaint in white or another colour of your choice.
