My parents are selling there house. They accepted an offer. The house has been inspected.
Two weeks ago we did the transfer of the deeds.

Can anyone tell me what happens now, how long would it normally take to complete?

Whereabouts are you? Do you mean they completed/signed the forms their solicitor sent them?

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/08/2018 22:24

Are they purchasing another property, are they in a chain that requires some negotiation? Are you in Scotland?

My EA said that it takes about 12 weeks from accepting an offer to completion.

We are in england, the form they signed was was a transfer of deeds it said. No they arent buying again they are moving into my home.

The transfer of deeds will be held by the solicitor ready for completion - what other paperwork have your parents had so far? Have they filled out the forms about what is being left in the house (fixtures and fittings forms), that sort of thing? Have they had a contract to sign along with the transfer of deeds?

Is another member of the family buying the property?

Oswin · 05/08/2018 22:49

Yeah they did the fixtures paperwork about four weeks ago. I Think they signed another contract when they did the deeds one. No not a family member.
The solicitor has been hard to get hold of.
Thank you for your help, we have no idea about any of this.

I think the quickest you can get things done in England is around 6 weeks. I'm 4 weeks into it atm, I haven't signed a deeds for though.

It’s often better to get the estate agents calling around to find out what’s happening. They tend to be the ones who really keep a sale moving.

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/08/2018 23:09

That sounds promising then OP, perhaps the buyers have some queries or are just getting their mortgage/paperwork in order. My solicitor/conveyancer used to ring to check the details just before exchange (that's the bit that commits both parties to the sale) and you'll probably have sorted out the completion date before then.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help, i can reassure them now. They have been so stressed out.
