Could anyone please advise me where to buy carpet flooring? Tapi, or carpetright or SCS.
Also, any advise on laminate flooring please? Is laminate flooring suitable for dining room? Is engineered wood suitable for mopping the floor?

We bought frim Carpetright twice now. I chose the one we liked the most, waited for a sale and haggled a bit off the price. The fitters messed things up a bit as they couldn’t speak English properly but the carpets themselves are great.
I have engineered wood in the kitchen/diner and works fine with just a wet mop. (It’s lacquered but not to a great quality, the laquer is chipping off in places but I believe laquer is easier to maintain than oiled.)
We had laminate in our previous house, looked nice but I think it scratched easier. (Kids were little and pushed plastic boxes on the floors every now ans then.)

We looked around for carpet suppliers and once you include underlay and fitting they all work out a similar price. We want with John Lewis and they were very good.

Local established company who doesn't spend huge sums of money on national advertising. My Dad was a textile consultant and his first job was in a carpet manufacturer. They pass their advertising costs onto the customer.

The one we always go to doesn't have any carpet details online just the brands they use, meaning they don't pay a member of staff to update the website all the time.

They are knowledgeable as it is a family business. I have had my lounge, 3 bedrooms, hall, stairs and landing carpeted through them.

We have 100% polyprop bleach cleanable carpet. It is incredibly soft and you wouldn't know it wasn't 80/20 wool blend. I compared the prices to online prices and they were the same. The main difference being that I didn't have to store the carpet at my house. The bedrooms had to be done in stages due to moving furniture out of the room each time.

Carpetright is in financial difficulties, I wouldn’t risk them.

I had annorder with them since about Feb. Part of it was delivered after the news went out about them struggling and part is still with them. My local store was to close and deliver the rest of the order but they’re staying open despite the news. So I’m hopeful. :-)

I've recently discovered this company and realised I was pretty daft paying CarpetRight prices all these years. You can order free samples to your door. Once you've chosen your flooring you will need to find a fitter. Fitters charge something like £30 for a small room. I've saved a small fortune. They have the same carpets you will find in CarpetRight, just a lot cheaper.

Tika77 · 05/08/2018 18:54

Which company was that Dicky? I haven’t managed to find anything online that compared in quality.

Dickybow321 · 07/08/2018 20:44

I linked to it in my post. It's flooringsuperstore.com

From experience there are a lot of hidden costs/charges in places like Carpetright & Scs. I would avoid them totally. You are far better to get a couple of quotes from local retailers.
Just for perspective, I run my own flooring business and one of these big retailers was charging £64.99m2 for a carpet, then reduced it to around £29.99m2 in a 'sale'. We can buy this carpet for £8m2. That's a ridiculous mark up!

Find someone local. We have laminate in the kitchen which is waterproof.

We got a brilliant carpet layer from checkatrade and they gave an all in price per square metre.

Dickybow321 · 08/08/2018 00:05

Hmm, I've only just heard of checkatrade on here and the thread wasn't very complimentary:it was saying the reviews are mainly fake. I have had a lot of great tradesmen from MyBuilder. They seem very keen to get a good review and so you get things done to a great standard. I've used it several times.

My carpet fitter I just contacted off he national carpet fitters association website. He was great

As someone linked before I just got my carpet online
