Renting on DSS

Not sure if this is the right place to post but hoping someone can give me some advice.

I’m currently on DSS as i’m On maternity leave and managed to find a rented property a year ago that would accept this. I’m hoping to move to a new area in order to start university in October. Having messaged estate agents they’ve basically told me I’ve got no hope in finding a place as I will be reliant on DSS and student income.

I’m just wondering how people manage to actually rent anywhere if this is the case for people on this income?

The place I have now has a lot of issues so I can see why it accepts DSS, but obviously I don’t want to be in another property with tons of problems/neighbours, but can’t imagine getting around it any other way?

Using a guarantor is a way around it, although some say no benefits due to mortgage conditions..

nobody in their right minds would be a guarantor- you stand to lose your home.

Contact the university, they will have housing officers

I do currently have a guarantor so that wouldn’t be a problem although they still seem to think I’m going to struggle finding properties.

I have asked the accommodation also and unfortunately they only have house shares which aren’t applicable to my situation as a I have a very young daughter. They have basically told me private renting is my only option but I’m not sure I’m going to get anywhere with that tbh.

go back to the university again, that is ridiculous, many students have children!

A house share would be fine, with another parent or family, or even with quiet students

Many universities ask students to classify themselves according to noise levels and sociability for accommodation purposes

Most buy to let mortgages don't allow it now so that's why it's become an issue.
