I'm reposting in the hope of getting some answers. PigletJohn your views would be most welcome!
I have had a difficult time with a bathroom in a rental flat and in restrospect it started when the bath was removed and replaced with a shower unit about 5 years ago. There was a severe leak within a few months which ran into the flat below. This was fixed only to recur a year later, this time up the wall behind the shower head. . The whole shower unit was replaced 18 months ago and now there's a leak again. The agents tradesmen say it is due to sealant being leaky. And are quoting heftily to reseal and fix rotten floorboards.
My questions are: since this all started with installation of a shower could it be due to the pipework, which now is not accessible without removing the shower tray? Should I be reinstating a bath, with accessible pipework? Are baths generally less prone to this kind of problem? Or am I as well going for a shower with accessible pipework? Thanks for any advice.
