Hi

I've just bought a house and now it's empty I can see these stains on the inside of the cupboards.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to remove/fix/cover up

Thank you

it's on the back wall, which is probably painted hardboard, and it looks to me like damp or water stains. Look at the wall above, under and beside the cab for traces of damp. If there is a bathroom above, probably a leak or overflow.

It appears to be in some kind of alcove, so it could be chimney related, or grease from a non-extracting cooker hood.

The cabinet can be lofted off its brackets by slackening both the screws on each of the adjustable hangers.

Cif cream cleaner in a squirty bottle (not spray) is brilliant stuff for removing stains and marks. Is that damp/mould marks do you think?

Once you have traced and sorted the cause I would recommend Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning the marks off, it’s amazing for this sort of thing.

Once sorted have you thought of painting over it?

Is it just me who thinks, once you've eliminated any leak or damp issues, why would you bother trying to sort that out? It's inside a cupboard and is not on show.

Thanks for all your advice I will try and clean it first. I hadn't thought of painting it as it's the back of a cupboard cabinet that isn't currently painted but I guess I could do.
I'm pretty sure its from a leak in the bathroom, we've had to replace the bathroom and it was all rotten underneath. I think that should be it sorted now, do I need to worry about lasting damage?
Thanks again!
