Taking a break between jobs & mortgage eligibility

Hi

I was planning to take a 2 week break in between jobs but I was told that it might affect my chance of getting a mortgage as banks want to see continuous employment and bank statements for the past 6 months. Is this true? I could start work earlier so that my end date and start date are 2 days apart.

Our mortgage broker was really helpful on these sort of Qs, do you have one?

DH was in a similar situation, and he was told that the most important thing is how long you've been in your current job. Less than three months can worry them as you might still be on probation.

I agree - it's the probationary period that mortgage providers usually want to know about.

I changed jobs at the same time as applying for a mortgage. I agree that a mortgage broker is a very good idea in this case. Our mortgage broker (Which? mortgages) found a mortgage provider who would be ok with an offer letter as proof of employment even though I was changing jobs. Apparently a lot of mortgage companies like you to have been in continuous employment for 3+ months before the mortgage application. SHe helped us navigate this and find a mortgage provider who offered a great rate and didn't have this requirement.

Thanks, I'll get in touch with a mortgage broker.
