Disguising weird bathroom "thing". Which looks better, if either?

Sorry, very trivial...

I got my bathroom refurbished recently, but there remains a weird little square panel above the toilet. Don’t know what it’s for and the plumber didn’t think it important, and I couldn’t be bothered with getting it removed.

The walls are getting plastered and painted in the next couple of weeks and that will be the room finished (a bit arse from elbow, I know)

Anyway, I planned to cover the weird bit with a frame of some kind and came across a spare during someone’s clear out at work. It’s perfect in that is deep enough to go over the weird wooden thing

My question is, does it look daft bedside the round mirror? Does it look acceptable landscape or portrait? Is it too big either way? I think I need smaller...

I should have kept a spare of my mosaic tile, tiled it and stuck my photo in it to prevent people using the bathroom 😂

I'm with alc3254 : make it a feature.
I'd be tempted to paint the inner part with blackboard chalk paint and use it to leave the message -
Ready, Aim, Fire.

Personally, I'd paint a cuckoo clock around it. It's an access point for something by the look of it.

If you do go for a picture frame landscape works better with the mirror as positioned, if you did go portrait, raise the mirror so it's equidistant hight wise to the frame. ( IMO )

I would make it a picture frame- leave it white, paint the rest of the wall- stick a nice picture in the middle.
If the round things on the frame are an issue, you could cover whole frame in buttons or shells or something? Got any kids who are into craft, need s summer project?
