Hello everyone,
We had a small sloping front garden that we have developed into two small levels (please see pic).
We now need a wall / retaining wall between the two levels to keep the obvious separation between the two levels.
We are trying to keep it affordable and easy.
When researching how to make a retaining wall, it frequently says to pour a 15 cm deep foundation in cement. For this, we would need 100 litres of cement.
- We're wondering if this is necessary or if there's an easier way? The levels are not high (30cm) and the area is small.
We're thinking of using dense blocks 215x440x100mm (weight 18.5kg each) placed on top of concrete paving slabs (450x450x32mm) and also attach the dense blocks to both side walls with mortar. All the blocks will be mortared together and the wall rendered. We will have weep went between the blocks on the first row. We will have gravel behind the wall separated from the soil with landscaping fabric.
- Can the paving slabs be used instead of a poured cement foundation?
- Can the dense blocks be placed as seen on the picture, standing up?
Any advice will be very helpful!
