Boiler been condemned, normal to renegotiate offer?

FTB here, we put an asking price offer in on a house which was accepted. The house was advertised as in need of modernisation (early 90's build) and our building survey recommended getting a boiler report prior to exchanging. Just had a gas safe registered engineer in to inspect and he has condemned it! The position of the flue is incorrect and dangerous, the boiler itself is not combusting properly and emitting fumes within the house. Engineer has stated he would not want to live in a house with that boiler.

Would it be normal to renegotiate on the house price offer? We knew it was a doer upper but had thought from our two viewings this was purely cosmetic (new bathrooms, kitchen etc). Any advice appreciated as we are a bit at sea not having bought before!

Definitely renegotiate. Find out roughly how much it will cost to replace the boiler and reduce your offer by that amount. If the vendors say no, you could always meet in the middle and ask for half the amount off.

We have just found out, after moving in, that we need a new boiler. It will be 3k.

If we had known we would have renegotiated. We had a boiler survey. He insists it broke after we moved in!
