Well, exactly that really.

When you've purchased a house, did you change the locks?

Lmfao @HopefullyMoving does that cause you huge problems out and about in public?

HopefullyMoving · 16/07/2018 21:47

@TheHodgeoftheHedge nah. It's ok for occasional usage but not in my home! I like to know it's a clean toilet seat, fresh from the packet... Wink

Hopefully moving I feel the same way about changing the toilet seat ... your not alone. It's just weird not to I think...

And for the record no I don't worry about using public ones... (well some maybe)

I thought it was just me and toilet seats, but yes that's always my first purchase!

Yes. Aside from not knowing who else might have keys, you'll often find that older locks do not meet the requirements of your home contents insurance policy. Most locks are easy to change and you shouldn't need much more than a basic screwdriver set so no need to splash out on a locksmith.

We didn’t one this one but have since changed most doors apart from the back door which is still the same. My daughter has kept a key from each house we have lived in as a souvenir so probably better to change them.

My DD changed the locks when she only received one set of keys. The owner appeared to have kept a set and we are fairly certain he let himself in and took the post box key that was on a hook in the kitchen. It was there when we left for our home and DD went out to see friends. When she got back it was missing. She changed the lock on the post box too. A few days later the EA phoned to ask if the previous owner could come and get his mail. DD said “no” and took it to the EA to pass on with a request that he got his mail forwarded to his new address immediately. Neither had he left the bin store key or the bike store key. We think he now lives just around the corner and wanted to use the old facilities.
