Dull kitchen lighting

We have two light fittings in our kitchen both with a three spotlight plate. (We can’t have spot lighting all over as the ceiling is solid concrete). We have some task lighting but when we just have the overhead lights on, it’s dull, dirty looking and lacking ambience. I’ve tried redirecting the lights but doesn’t have an effect. We have ‘warm white’ lightbulbs.

Would a different type of light give more ambience? Or could it be the bulbs? They are halogen ones I think. I’m finding it hard as you can’t really try lights before you buy

LED bulbs might be a whiter light. Can you have lighting tracks with more lights? They are surface mounted. They are far more versatile.

Thanks. I initially wanted a plate with more lights, say a line of four but the builder couldn’t get the drill through the ceiling and so we had to find lights which fitted the holes of the old ones. I’m thinking maybe to try ‘cool white’ bulbs

I don't think you'd like cool white bulbs - they ARE very cold looking. We have one in our bathroom mirror and it's horrible. Can you fit bulbs with more lumens? The LED's don't get hot at all, so fitting a 60 watt equivalent instead of a 40 watt equivalent bulb should make no difference to the safety of the fitting but would improve the amount of light..
