Removing artex?

Help!
We have a lot of artex in our hallway and landing , but a couple of walls are actually textured wallpaper painted over to blend in with it, lovely.
I want nice smooth walls!
Is it wise to try and remove it ourselves before getting the plasterers in, or is there a particular professional who would do it ?
It’s a huge job it seems :(

Artex can contain asbestos so best to get it checked out first.

Totally agree on the asbestos issue it's a big big problem. 3 ways of dealing with it
1 pay a LOT of money to get it removed safely and professionally
2 get it plastered / plaster-boarded over
3 put up with it spend the money on nice things instead

We
Have the same problem on ceiling in new house so we are going with number 3 and painting over it and ignoring the look

Dont disturb it... asbestos
Plaster straight over the top on the ceilings
Temove the wallpaper and paint or replaster if bad underneath

Get the walls skimmed easier and quicker

Ours is Jewish so no asbestos issue.

We've had some rooms removed as we've had work done in those spaces, and having living room sorted this summer. It's just being plastered and skimmed over. We have a decorator doing it all for us. Not really expensive this way.

We are living with it in other rooms as can't be doing with the mess and hassle. It'll get sorted in the remaining rooms eventually but is likely to remain in the halls and landings.

Our artex isn't Jewish!!! It is new-ish!

Me too Grin

by newish how new do you mean? Under 10 years old? This article may help en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artex

13 years old. It doesn't have asbestos in AFAIK; had various checks for many things following an extension and other changes in the house a couple of years ago. Though, they did wear appropriate clothing for those kind of messier jobs, and face masks as its really dirty as it is. Ours were all plastered over and skimmed rather than sanded away.

Most websites suggest it is very unlikely that a house build after 1999 will have asbestos artex in the UK.
