The most difficult bloody place to put a curtain ever...HELP

So we have double glass doors with a juiliette balcony as the only windows in our bedroom in our new house. It gets the morning light so we are in bright light from 4 am.

No problem I say, we’ll get a curtain I say... except there is no where to hang it. Doors are recessed but there isn’t enough gap between the recess wall and the door frame such that you can fit a curtain rail or any form of window treatment.

So I turn to hanging it from the wall. Except there is a bloody great radiator to one side of the recess, so we can’t get a curtain pool there. So far I think my options are:

  1. 1970’s style curtain tracks so we can pull curtain from one side only.
  1. Install pole but accept that curtain will have to hang across most of the door even when it’s pulled back.
  1. Hang the curtain pool above the radiator (which is about a door higher than the top of the door) and have the curtain hang over the radiator.
  1. Curtain/ window treatment on the doors themselves, but then there’s no where to pull them back too.
  1. Some sort of folding curtain/shutters (like a screen) from one side only.

Basically 1-3 sound a bit ugly/ odd looking and 4 impractical 5 expensive !

Someone rescue me with a brilliant idea !

I'd go with a blackout curtain that pulls to one side. Draped over a fixed boss holdback if you have space.

Like this but not so much covering the door.

How about a hinged pole like this ? You can get them from other sites too www.hunterandhyland.co.uk/category/products/supplies/dormer-windows/swing-arms/

Have you considered conservatory-type blinds that sit into the glass doors themselves ? Some of them are nicer than you might think !

I'm not sure whether I'm picturing yours correctly. We have bifold doors and fixed a special curtain track to the ceiling - any use?

Ohh great ideas thanks team ! Like the track and conservatory blinds. Don’t think the hinge or drape will work because the width is 1.5 meters, but they may be useful elsewhere !

Realised a pic would be helpful

I second the blinds fitted into the frames. You can get blinds that open from the top and the bottom to give you lots of flexibility.

Id go for blinds. But other options shutters? Or window film might be an option if you don't spend much time looking out the view (you can get lovely ones - or even just light reducing ones that still let you view.)
Or even a standing screen that can be folded away elsewhere in the room as a quick alternative while you consider what to do.
