Fire and now selling flat after 9 months!!

Yep, 9 months. Had problems since I moved in. It is an ex council (waiting on the told u so comment) ground floor. Initially appeared brilliant, seller was dishonest about neighbours and the general goings on around here, crime etc. I had to get cctv put in due to external windows being burnt with cigarettes.
I kept myself to myself, just got on with it, I have lots of health problems and the stress of living here got too much after flat was set on fire a few weeks ago. Luckily fire brigade attended when they did and "only" £2000 of damage which insurance is paying for. Police can't pinpoint perpetrator but have an idea but without solid evidence there is no case. As you can imagine, I want out!
The blocks are full of council tenants who are just awful. The general area is okay, lots of bought semis around and they are all decent people. It's just the 3 blocks of flats plonked in the middle that are full of undesireables. It is clear they do not like owners in their blocks as another neighbour who owns has been abused since she moved in. It's so sad considering I grew up in social housing, saved like mad whilst very ill and managed to buy an ex council flat. But I am deemed a snob or an outsider.

How the hell am I going to get this sold with cctv up? and a fire that was set outside? The questions like why are you moving after only 9 months? I have no savings left, I have a low income due to my health problems. I feel trapped. But I am selling anyway.
I think the best type of buyer would be a buy to let. Flat inside is immaculate, well decorated, brand new doors, windows, kitchen and bathroom. It makes me sad as I love it inside.

Also, I did consult a solicitor about the seller lying about neighbours, disputes and various issues. But was told proving it in court would be difficult and I may not get much out of it.

Any help or kind words at the moment would really be appreciated 🌼

Sorry to hear that! Can you let it out yourself in the meantime and rent somewhere nicer to live? If someone is looking to buy a property to let the fact that there are tenants in situ might help.

Could you approach the council and see if they want to buy it.

Lucisky · 11/07/2018 16:15

Would you consider selling it at auction? You would most probably get a BTL landlord that way.

Unfortunately as I bought through help to buy and legally you can't rent it out. It would be amazing if they would buy it back. Who would I approach? I also feel scared about any decent folk coming to view it. What the hell do I tell them?

I managed to sell on a house with awful neighbours (albeit ones I hadn't complained about officially anywhere) after less than two years, to people who were going to use it as student housing.
Hope you manage to get rid of yours too.

I remember you posting not long after you moved in - I'm sorry it's come to this for you. I can't understand the mentality of people who behave like that. Speak to some local agents and ask them to market off the internet to investors locally first maybe? Also contact the housing office who manage the properties locally.

@wowfudge thank you, I know, I think my gut instinct knew I wasn't in a safe, happy place. Then the fire two weeks ago has just ruined me mentally. I don't even like being at home anymore. Those are really good ideas. Thank you :)

@pennycarbonara thank you, it's such an awful situation to be in. Especially when you're a decent person. Glad you got yours sold. Hopefully I'll be in with the same luck
