what colour would you choose for a new kitchen? (not white!!)

We're getting a new kitchen. At the moment we have a very old beech finish kitchen which has had it - we really need something new.

Nearly every kitchen showroom is packed with white and shiny kitchens. I hate white and shiny units! There is a lot of other choice too - leaning towards a dove grey matt finish or a pebble type colour. (DD like the bubblegum pink kitchens but luckily she's not choosing).

So if you were in the market for a whole new kitchen, what colour would you choose and why?

Google Kitchen Farrow and Ball Pigeon. I have seen a kitchen with this colour on the units. Absolutely gorgeous.

ours is white because we have quite a dark kitchen and i was worried anything else would feel dreary but if we had a bright kitchen I'd probably have DIY kitchens cashmere colour which is a mushroomy/taupe colour, dh liked it when we went to the showroom but the sample looked dark in our house. Or a charcoal and light grey mix of units.

We went for cream gloss units with a dark grey quartz top. We thought white was too stark but equally felt that the coloured fronts would date very quickly/we'd get bored of them. With neutrals we can easily repaint the walls whenever we fancy a change. At the moment our walls are a dusky mid-blue from the Dulux heritage range.

About to move into a new build cottage - we have opted for Howdens Burford Cashmere. I hate anything white or shiny!

mix textures and tones
not done a gloss kitchen in... ??? no idea!!
and dont be scared o have a splash of coulor in there.
we have a grey type with and azure handle rail
white wall units on one side and sawn oak pivilion grey fridge section
it doesnt look grey, more a stained.
play around and always look to introduce more than the 1 colour to make it for you

If you want expensive/classy/muted, have a look at images of Tom Howley kitchens for inspiration.

Mine is white, but matt and a very soft shade of white, not cold or clinical at all. It seems much lighter and is very calming.

If I had a large spacious kitchen I'd have looked at colours. Caramel sounds lovely.

All kitchens date, so you have to get what you like and what suits the room. My kitchen won't be changed for many years so I have to be able to live with it.

We have a cream coloured one but were torn between that and sage. We went cream as we figured it would be easier to change the colour scheme if we fancied whereas sage would be a bit more limiting. We have a gloss white in our old kitchen and I hated it.
