Stacking Tumble Dryer - How?

Dahokolomoki · 05/07/2018 12:52

I currently have a Miele washing machine and just ordered a Miele tumble dryer to go on top of it. I've got the official stacking kit as well.

However, when I rang up Co-op Electrical (who I am buying the tumble dryer from), their delivery drivers don't do installation of tumble dryers, let alone stacking it on top of the existing washing machine.

If someone has had this done before, what's the best solution? Is it easy for me and someone else to lift and stack, or is the tumble dryer really heavy? Is there a specialist?

How did you get yours stacked?

tumble driers are the lightest appliances. One burly woman, or two weedy ones, can lift it.

The stacking kit will usually consist of a square-ish frame that goes on top of the washer. It has a downward lip to stop it falling off the washer, and an upper lip (or some foot holes) to keep the drier in place.

Some general-purpose ones are adjustable in fit, if yours is the official Miele kit then it may have been made to fit precisely.

There may be screws or grippers to lock the three things together and prevent the drier escaping. I expect the instructions will explain. You may need a set of screwdrivers.

We stacked our own when we had a matching set. It was easy to do.

Fitting the condense to automatically drain from the tumble drier can be trickier tbh

Thanks for the quick replies! Glad to see that its light enough for two adults to lift, so that removes a worry.

Its a heat pump one so I guess no additional connections to be made (except for plugging into a socket).

Thanks all! Wish there was a way on Mumsnet to give some credit / recognition for helpful posters!

I hope you don’t mind my mini hijack as it was related. Apologies and thanks in advance.

Has anyone raised the washing machine and also stacked the tumble drier on top? I’m fed up of bending down to fill the WM.

Thanks.

We have a heat pump one too, and you still have to do something with the water that comes out!

I just have my tumble dryer on top of my washing machine.......

They weigh nothing. I got my tumble dryer into the cellar on my own.

Mines just on a shelf above the washing machine. Old school!

I would worry about reaching the condenser drawer when it's higher up, so would need to look into how you use the alternate drainage thingy.

I had a heavy duty wooden shelf built when the laundry room was done, the drier sits on that.
I keep a small folding stool to reach up (and check it's empty/fluff filter/empty the water bottle)

Thanks for all the responses again - I got my new Miele dryer delivered last week, and myself and a handyman (who was here doing something else) managed to lift it on top.

Three things to help anyone else doing this in the future:
1 - both the delivery crew and the handyman said that this Miele dryer was much heavier than other brands they've seen in the past, so be careful if you have a Miele.
2 - it was light enough for two adults to lift, but it wasn't super light either.
3 - the official Miele stacking kit worked well, albeit very expensive for what it is (£55 for bits of plastic!)

Thanks OP - I’m planning on doing this and it’s great when someone comes back to give feedback rather than just disappearing into thin air!
