Bathroom window - etched glass or take it with a film?

We currently have a blind in our bathroom window but would like to get rid of it and obscure the glass instead. I'm undecided whether we should replace the glass in the bottom panes with etched/ obscured glass, or just use one of those adhesive films to create the same effect.

The house is a Victorian semi with lots of original period features so we would probably go for a patterned effect in keeping with the house and the bathroom itself ("traditional" bathroom fixtures, black and white tiled floor).

Interested in people's experiences with the film approach - does it look good, can you tell, how difficult is it to DIY?

Also, if you were buying a period property, would you notice or care?

Title should read fake it not take it!

I used the diy film option.
It was a bit trickier than I expected as I was being very perfectionist about making sure there were no bubbled which meant I had to peel it back and resmooth it a couple of times before it looked right. It looks absolutely fine.

I think if I was buying I would notice but wouldn't care.

We used film and it was very good. You could hardly tell it was film but it didn't have a pattern in, just obscured glass

A friend of mine lives in a victorian house and needed to obscure the glass in the loo. She was undecided what to do but the cost of patterned glass was too much and went with suitably patterned vinyl.

When I next visited I thought they had bought glass as it looked so good I was unable to tell the difference unless I touched it.

It was a sort of Fleur de lys pattern.

We've used Purlfrost lots of times - they're amazing! Really easy to apply as well.

I have used a lot of window film in 2 different houses. We had some exterior doors (to the garage etc) which were half glass displaying everything you had to the world.

I highly recommend Purlfrost over any other. It is much more flexible so doesn't get creases in it as you ease it into the corners. Cuts beautifully. The packaging and instructions are well thought out unlike others that stuff the instructions into the middle of the roll of film making it difficult to get out.

I have "privacy" glass in both bathrooms but then also added frosted film for actual privacy. I have it on the half glass garage door and the exterior utility door plus the interior utility door.

Far cheaper than actual glass.

Thanks, think I will give purlfrost a try.
